Frequently Asked Questions

Do you accept insurance?

We are an out-of-network provider. At TMC we believe therapy is for everyone and you don't need a label or diagnosis to benefit from therapy. Many people come to therapy for reasons other than mental illness. Keep in mind, insurance companies require justification for treatment (i.e. a diagnosis) and they control the frequency and length of your sessions. We want you to be in control of your treatment with the right to increased confidentiality, decision-making based on your needs, and choosing the professional who is most competent to treat you.

In these ways, insurance can become a hindrance in obtaining quality, effective and specialized mental health treatment.

While in some cases diagnoses are needed and necessary,  the diagnosis of mental illness can follow a person long after symptoms have been resolved. It is important to consider that the diagnosis can go on your permanent medical record and be a barrier to obtaining life insurance benefits, health benefits,  jobs/careers in government, military, aviation, etc.

Additionally, we reserve new client appointments each week so you have the benefit of being seen immediately as opposed to long waitlists and permission from a third party insurer. In-network therapists often have fuller schedules which could potentially mean greater stress and less accessibility.

How much do you charge?

Our rates vary depending on the therapist you are seeing and the length of your session.

Senior Licensed Therapist's rate is $130 for a 60 minute session. These therapists are fully licensed and have 5+ years experience.

Licensed Therapist's rate is $120 for a 60 minute session. These therapists are fully licensed with less than 5 years of experience.

Registered Mental Health Therapist Intern's rate is $110 for a 60 minute session. These therapist's are post-graduates, pre-licensed, earning clinical hours towards their full licensure.

Couples/Marriage/Family therapy sessions are $150-$200 depending on the length of the session.

What is your cancellation policy?

The time scheduled with your therapist is reserved for you and for you only. We ask that you notify your therapist or the office 24 hours before rescheduling or canceling an appointment. If we have not received any notice, you will be charged for the full session of your appointment.

We understand that life can get in the way of therapy appointments. However, we only see a limited number of clients per day, and only take on a limited number of clients on our caseloads so that we can give you the focus and attention you deserve. A canceled appointment hurts you, your therapist, and another client who could have needed a session.

Can I still get reimbursed?

Many insurance plans offer out-of-network coverage can help reduce the cost of therapy-making the final cost comparable to seeing an in-network therapist. While all payments must be paid upfront, we can provide you with an invoice or super bill to get reimbursed from your insurance company. We recommend calling your insurance company directly to confirm your out-of-network coverage. Many of our clients are reimbursed directly from their insurance company and report reimbursement rates between 60%-90%.

Important questions to ask are: "What are my mental health benefits", "What is my deductible or what is my out-of-pocket max", "Do you cover session code 90834?", "How do I get reimbursed for out of network mental health services?", "What is the process for submitting a superbill?", "How long will it be before I receive reimbursement?" Contact us directly for more guidance.

We do accept flexible spending accounts (FSA) and/or health savings accounts (HSA).

If utilizing insurance benefits is the only way for you to receive therapy, by all means we want you to have treatment. Our hope is to empower you with more knowledge so you can make an informed decision that is right for you!

Other payment options?

We do accept flexible spending accounts (FSA) and/or health savings accounts (HSA).

If you cannot afford the full out-of-pocket rate, another possibility is a reduced-rate or sliding scale rate. Don't hesitate to ask, most therapists have a select number of sessions for individuals needing the sliding scale rate due to financial strain or life circumstances.

How often should I come to therapy?

This varies greatly between clients and is completely up to you and your needs. Your therapist will offer a professional recommendation based off your current symptoms and treatment goals. This process is unique to you and you can always decrease/increase frequency of sessions depending on your specific needs.

Is what I say in therapy confidential?

Everything that is said during a therapy session is completely confidential with three exceptions: 1) if a child is in danger, 2) if you are in danger of harming yourself, or 3) if you are planning on harming another person.
